Argentine Farmers Hault Strike
06.09.08
Argentina's farm groups have suspended their strike at the request of the Roman Catholic Church, which asked farmers to halt the strike in a "gesture of magnanimity" to preserve social peace. The church also asked President Cristina Fernandez to convene talks with farmers.
Farmers meet Monday with a national ombudsman who has offered to broker the crisis, as they continue roadside protests. Truckers continue to blocking some major roads in an effort to force a solution.
