Canada House of Commons Passes Biofuel Mandate

In Canada, the House of Commons passed a biofuel bill mandating a 5% ethanol blend in gasoline by 2010 and a 2% biodiesel blend by 2012, creating demand for 528 million gallons of ethanol and 159 million gallons of biodiesel.
The bill also provides subsidies of $1.47 billion in an effort to ensure the mandate is filled with biofuel made from Canadian crops. The bill will now move to the Senate.
