US Congress Agrees on Farm Bill
05.09.08
The US Congress has reached agreement on a $285 billion Farm Bill. Among its provisions, the Farm Bill will provide $300 million in reauthorization of the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) Bioenergy program.
The energy package also funds research on next generation cellulosic biofuels, increased oversight over manipulation of energy prices, revocation of $17 billion in tax breaks to oil companies, and imposition of a 25% windfall profits tax on firms that do not invest in new energy sources. It is unclear if the White House will sign the measure.
