Columbian Sugar Exports Decline For Second Year
04.24.08
Colombia's sugar exports declined for a second consecutive year. According to the US Department of Agriculture, Colombia's sugar production fell to 2.35 million tons in 2006/07 from 2.44 million tons the year before.
Production is expected to rise only slightly in 2007/2008 and remain unchanged in 2008/2009. This trend has created the need for Columbia to import more raw sugar to meet its domestic demand.
