Malaysia Pondering Biodiesel Mandate
04.21.08
Malaysia is considering offering financial incentives to biodiesel producers and the government is deliberating whether to introduce a 2% or 5% biodiesel blending level to boost production.
According to the chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, manufacturing palm oil biodiesel will be economically viable only if CPO prices are less than $782 mt compared with the current $1,156 mt.
A 2% biodiesel blend with suitable incentives could stimulate production of 200,000 mt of biodiesel, while a 5% blend result in 500,000 mt.
