Kenyan Company Plans $330 Million Biofuel Project

04.07.08

Kenya-based Mumias Sugar Company is planning a $330 million biofuel project, including an ethanol refinery and food processing plant.

Also, 20,000 hectares of sugar cane will be planted in the Tana river delta for biofuels and food in an area dominated by traditional cattle herding, and small scale rice and subsistence farming.

Environmentalists are concerned the project could threaten wetlands.
