02.25.08

Virgin Atlantic confirmed a successful biodiesel demonstration flight from London Heathrow airport to Amsterdam Schiphol airport yesterday.

The airline tested a commercial-style Boeing 747-400 running on fuel made from babassu and coconut oil in one of its four engines.

Project partners included Virgin Atlantic, Boeing, GE Aviation and Imperium Renewables. Virgin Atlantic said no modifications were made to the aircraft or its engines to use the fuel.
