Bulgaria Attracts Biodiesel Investment

02.11.08

Spanish group Coener Systems plans to build a $90 million biodiesel plant near Pleven in north Bulgaria, due online in 2009.

The company says production will be sold on the domestic market and in Austria, Germany, Romania and Serbia.

Local companies Eko Petroleum, Papas Oil, Biodreams, Bulmarket, Kristera and Profex Bioproducts, and Spain’s Green Fuel Corporacion have also announced plans to build biodiesel plants in Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian government projects that annual domestic consumption of biodiesel will increase to 44,000 tons in 2008, 133,000 tons in 2010 and 314,000 tons in 2020.
