UK Investors Back Mozambique Sugar Plantation
12.11.07
London-based Principle Capital has raised $70 million from a group of hedge funds to seed a 56,800-acre Mozambique sugar plantation that it hopes will become Africa's biggest ethanol feedstock exporter.
Principle Energy, the new company running the site, recently began clearing land for the first phase of the project, which will eventually cost $290 million. The project is backed by hedge funds including Tudor, RAB Capital and GLG Partners as well as Société Générale, and the French bank, Brian Myerson.
