Argentina Farmers Gain Clout in Congress
07.06.09
Argentinean farmers overcame one hurdle regarding export taxes as the government's Peronist party lost majority in congress last week, allowing farmers’ representatives to be elected to congress for the first time in history.
However, the government could try to minimize fiscal losses by keeping the 15% biodiesel export tax and decreasing the soybean oil tax, which would lower the indirect biodiesel subsidizes received by producers, according to market reports.
