Biodiesel Production May Lower South American Soy Exports

11.21.07

Increased biodiesel production in Brazil and Argentina is likely to reduce the two countries’ 2008 soy oil exports, a German-based oilseeds analyst forecasts.

Brazil's 2008 biodiesel output is likely to rise from 330,000 mt to 770,000 mt, cutting Brazil's 2008 soy oil exports to 2.3 million mt--a five-year-low.

Argentina's 2008 biodiesel output is likely to rise to 900,000 mt from 210,000 mt in 2007, reducing exports of soy oil to 3.78 million mt in 2008.
