EPA Releases Proposed RFS2 Ruling
05.06.09
On Tuesday, US EPA released its proposed Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS2). Among the updates is a minimum use requirement for "Biomass-based Diesel" in which the fuel must reduce ghg emissions by 50% including indirect land use.
According to EPA, soy-based biodiesel reduces lifecycle ghg emissions by 22%, therefore in order to meet requirements a biodiesel production facility would need to use a minimum of 48% waste grease and a maximum of 52% soybean oil.
