A new generation of power

In the era of Renewable Portfolio Standards, power plants are looking at biodiesel as a source of cleaner burning, renewable fuel. Many states have adopted incentives to encourage this transition.

A recent study by the Electric Power Research Institute (http://my.epri.com) on behalf of the New York Power Authority tested 20% biodiesel (B20) co-fired with residual fuel oil. The results were summarized as “highly successful” with “no issues regarding operability and performance.” The study concluded: “All emissions were either reduced, or at a minimum, did not experience an increase. Flame stability was slightly improved.” World Energy supplied the biodiesel.
